Want a Greener, Healthier Lawn? Aerate!

A core aeration – the service best known for leaving little soil plugs on top of the grass – is a great way to improve lawn health and appearance.

Improve Lawn Drainage

Digging in and removing plugs allows rain and sprinkler water to penetrate deeper, bringing nutrients and oxygen to the grass roots.

Grow a Healthy Lawn

An aerated lawn will have a deeper and more robust root system that requires less watering and improves drought resistance.

Control Weeds

As your grass thickens and develops a more robust root system, weeds are choked out and are unable to grow!

It’s Amazing How Much an Aeration Benefits Your Lawn

Allowing water, oxygen, and nutrients to reach the root system works wonders.

Soil Plug From a Lawn Core Aeration

The layer of thatch that your lawn develops can rob it of vital nutrients

Thatch is the compact layer of dead grass, dirt, debris, and whatever else found its way on to your lawn. It can be a quarter of an inch to over an inch thick!

Redistribute soil and nutrients all across your lawn

Spread a little love around! The soil plugs will break down, redistributing soil over top of the lawn… and nutrients, too!

Frequently Asked Questions About Core Aerations

A core aeration – the service best known for leaving little soil plugs on top of the grass – is a great way to improve lawn health and appearance.

Aerations start at just $74.99 (plus gst). Larger lots, corner lots, or lots with complex layouts may cost more. We will provide a written estimate for your property that outlines our fees.
Your lawn is best aerated in the early/mid spring (late April – Mid-May) or late fall (mid-September to mid-October).

This is because temperatures and conditions are ideal so as to not cause harm to the now-exposed root systems in the grass.

Our heavy-duty aerator digs into the grass and pulls out a small cylindrical plug that is comprised of soil, thatch, and grass. These plugs can be left on top of your lawn (they will break down over the course of a week or two), or you can rake/remove them and top-dress new soil in their place.
core aeration is different than a standard aeration. Where a standard aeration pokes holes into the soil (penetrating the thatch), a core aeration physically removes small cores of soil between 1″ and 2″ long.

These cores are left on the surface of your lawn, where they break down back into your lawn after a few rainfalls.

Removing cores from the lawn accomplishes several things:

  1. It allows air and water to more easily penetrate the thatch layer and reach the root system.
  2. It promotes the grass root system to grow thicker and more robust.
  3. It brings important nutrients down into the root system, improving grass health.
